The Municipality of Nessebar celebrated Trifon Zarezan The Municipality of Nessebar celebrated Trifon Zarezan, the Bulgarian holiday of vine-growers and wine-makers Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate the Day of the Homemade Wine in the village of Giliovtsa On 14th February, the Mayor of the Municipality of Nessebar Nikolay Dimitrov, together with the Chairman of the Agricultural Cooperative Stayko Gurgov, the folklore group “Bulgarka” to the community centre “Yana Luskova”, lots of people, gathered in the morning in the vineyards, to perform the pruning ritual.
After deterioration of the weather conditions last week After deterioration of the weather conditions last week, The Red Cross organization in Nessebar formed a crisis centre to help people in need. Every day the poor get warm and substantial food, coffee, tea, warm clothes. A shelter was given to them to have their meals and relax from the freezing cold outside. Besides food, clothing and shelter, the charitable organization and the Municipality of Nessebar help in every possible ways to protect people from snow, low temperatures and strong winds. On behalf of The Red Cross organization, Mrs. Violeta Georgieva, a Red Cross volunteer, expressed gratitude to Kostadin Nishtelkov and Penko Penchev from the Municipal Council.
The village of Kosharitsa celebrates the Day of the Homemade Sausage
The Day of the Homemade Sausage took place for the second year on 14th January in the village of Kosharitsa. Since early morning the village centre started to fill up with people from Nessebar and nearby villages. Folk groups of amateur musicians, dancers and singers entertained the people. The party continued with ring dances. Then everyone took an active part in sausage- and wine- tasting. The Mayor of Nessebar, Mr. Nikolay Dimitrov, greeted warmly the people and wished them to find more reasons to celebrate. All competitors were awarded for their culinary skills. The Day of the Homemade Sausage is the next step in creating a culinary map of the region.
Sons-in-law bathing in the village of Kosharitsa The ritual bathing for good health`s sake performed on Yordanovden(6 January), continued on the next day too- Saint John`s Feast Day (Ivanovden). Bathing the newly-wed and the sons-in-law is an old Bulgarian tradition. Kosharitsa is the only village in the region and one of the few in Bulgaria where this ritual is still performed. On Saint John`s Feast Day, bachelors and carol singers “bathed” three sons-in-law: Plamen Panayotov, Krustan Nikiforov and Kaloyan Giurov. Before the ritual the young men gathered together to warm up with mulled wine and brandy. Then they were all delighted and in high spirits and enjoyed the folklore songs, performed by the musicians. As usual, the “bathing” was a real spectacle and everyone had fun.
